Why do people get Veneers?

Discoloured/Stained Teeth

Discolouration of the teeth can occur in various ways; with alcohol, smoking, and poor dental hygiene being among the most common causes. Porcelain veneers can make your teeth look like new, natural teeth.

Gappy Teeth

Gappy teeth can cause debris and food to accumulate between teeth and this can lead to plaque buildup, gum disease and less confidence. Porcelain veneers can help patients with gaps in their teeth, regardless of how little or large the gap is.

Broken / Chipped Tooth

Porcelain veneers are an ideal solution to conceal chipped, broke, fractured or worn-down teeth. By changing the shape and length of your teeth, we can also change the fullness of your smile.

Crooked / Overcrowded Teeth

Porcelain veneers can correct spacing issues as well as crooked teeth. By changing the shape and length of your teeth, we can also change the fullness of your smile. If we can’t fix the overcrowding issue with veneers alone, we can offer treatment plans to get Invisalign as a first step.

Worn-down teeth

Porcelain veneers can restore or enhance the appearance of your worn-down teeth. By changing the shape and length of your teeth, we can also change the fullness of your smile.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are hand-crafted from ultra-thin porcelain and designed to mimic the characteristics of natural teeth – giving the look and feel of natural tooth enamel.
The advantage of porcelain veneers is that they are custom-designed to suit the patients face, teeth and smile, they help address common concerns like gaps, wear, teeth shape, size, alignment and colour.

Are veneers permanent?

Dental veneers are not a long-term or maintenance-free solution for tooth defects since they must be updated every 10 to 15 years. Before a veneer is secured to the teeth, a tiny layer of enamel is removed.

Porcelain versus Composite Veneers

Porcelain Veneers versus Composite Veneers

Dental veneers can be made of porcelain or composite (a tooth-coloured filling material). Composite veneers can be placed on your front teeth in a single appointment, whereas a porcelain veneer requires two appointments. One appointment is for the impression and slight tooth reduction to make room for the veneer and the second appointment is to attach your new porcelain veneers.
Composite Veneers are usually less expensive than porcelain veneers but do not last as long (5 years versus 15 years for porcelain). The materials of porcelain allow for a more life-like appearance once placed and they also add strength to the tooth during the bonding process.

what types of veneers are available?

Porcelain or composite materials can be used to create dental veneers Brisbane (a tooth coloured filling material). In one visit, composite veneers can be applied to your front teeth, whereas porcelain veneers require two visits. The first appointment is for an impression and a minor tooth reduction to make room for the veneers, and the second appointment is for your new veneers to be attached.

Porcelain veneers are usually more expensive than composite veneers, but they do not last as long and do not have the same aesthetic appeal. Porcelain veneers are more stain-resistant than composite veneers.

Veneers made out of porcelain are the prime choice to enhance your smile. The properties of porcelain allow for a truly life-like appearance once placed. They also add strength to the tooth during the bonding process. However, they do require the removal of a small amount of your tooth for placement.

how long do dental veneers last?

Porcelain veneers are extremely strong for how thin they are and are stronger than composite veneers. The porcelain material will not stain and will maintain their shine for the life of the veneer. The durability of the veneers depends on how well they are treated. If you are a grinder or use your front teeth as tools, like tearing open bags, biting fishing line or if you bite your fingernails, then the veneers will not last as long.

Typically, porcelain veneers last about 15 years where composite veneers last around 5 years. Porcelain veneers fail when they are broken, usually due to misuse or severe grinding, or when the cement that holds them in place starts to stain. If you are a heavy coffee or tea drinker, then the cement that holds porcelain veneers in place will begin to discolour, leaving a visible line where the veneer meets the tooth. Unfortunately, the only correction is to have the veneers replaced, although some success in reducing the discolouration can occur with a home teeth whitening application.

Composite veneers can break much easier than porcelain veneers, although the most common failure is discolouration. Discolouration of composite veneers occurs as the entire surface of the veneer is exposed to staining foods, and the material itself absorbs components of the food and drink.

CAN DENTAL VENEERS BRISBANE STRAIGHTEN MY TEETH?

Veneers do not actually straighten your teeth, but they give your teeth the appearance of being straight. If you have misaligned teeth that are also discoloured or chipped, then veneers can be a great solution. However, veneers need to be replaced periodically, so if your teeth have no other affliction, other than being misaligned, then orthodontics is most likely a better choice.

dental veneer: aftercare

Although dental veneers are painless to apply, local anesthetic is still used during the initial preparation. If the patient is in discomfort following the treatment, the dentist will recommend over-the-counter pain relievers.

Your teeth will most likely be sensitive following the procedure, and this will last for a few weeks while the teeth adjust to the veneers. Excruciating painmight be caused by eating hot or cold meals at this time.

There are no specific aftercare measures required once the veneers have been entirely put to the teeth. It will still be necessary for you to practice good dental hygiene daily, such as flossing and cleaning your teeth. To keep your dental health in the most effective form, we also recommend using mouthwash.

what can go wrong with veneers?

If not correctly cared for, veneers can chip and break. The veneers may deteriorate and endanger the tooth beneath them if your dental health is not maintained.

When to use veneer?

Our team can help you access your superannuation on compassionate grounds.

Veneers are mainly utilized for aesthetic reasons. Your dentist may recommend it in a variety of scenarios.

Below are some of those:

  • Discolouration of the teeth. Both men and women suffer from tooth discolouration. A tooth can darken in various ways, with alcohol, smoking, and poor dental hygiene being among the most common causes. Too much fluoride can also cause tooth discolouration. Conditions include stomach reflux, root canal treatment, resin fillings, and drug use may all contribute to the tint.
  • Teeth that have been worn out – Our teeth will ultimately wear out like any other component of our bodies. It might wear out faster than usual for various reasons, one of which is a lack of appropriate dental hygiene. Other factors, such as fluoride deficiency, heredity, and diabetes, can also play a role.
  • Dental veneers can be used to conceal a chipped or fractured tooth.
  • Veneers can help patients with gaps in their teeth, regardless of how little or large the hole is.
  • Teeth are irregularly shaped or misaligned — Most of us are born with faults in our teeth, and dental veneers can be utilized to hide such flaws in our smile. Dental veneers can be used to fix teeth that are uneven in height, breadth or have bulges or depressions in the front surfaces.

FAQs

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. At My Implant Dentist, these are typically made from porcelain or composite resin and are used to address various cosmetic issues, such as discoloration, chips, gaps, or misalignment. The application process usually involves preparing the tooth surface by removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit. Once the veneers are bonded to the teeth, they can enhance your smile by providing a natural-looking and durable solution. Dental veneers are a popular choice for those looking to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing smile quickly and effectively.
A good candidate for dental veneers is someone looking to enhance their smile and address specific cosmetic concerns. Ideal candidates typically have healthy teeth and gums, as veneers are most effective when applied to teeth that are free of decay or serious dental issues. Common reasons for seeking veneers include discoloration, chips, gaps between teeth, or minor misalignment. Patients who desire a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing smile are also great candidates. It’s important to have realistic expectations and discuss your goals during a consultation, as our team will evaluate your oral health and determine if veneers are the right choice for you. Overall, dental veneers can provide a beautiful and long-lasting solution for those wanting to improve their smile’s appearance.
Dental veneers can effectively correct a variety of cosmetic issues, including:
  • Discoloration: They can cover stained or discolored teeth, providing a brighter, more uniform appearance.
  • Chips and Cracks: Veneers can restore the look of teeth that have small chips or cracks, making them appear whole and healthy again.
  • Gaps: They can be used to close gaps between teeth, creating a more even smile without the need for braces.
  • Misalignment: While not a substitute for orthodontics, veneers can help improve the appearance of slightly crooked or uneven teeth, giving the illusion of a straighter smile.
Irregular Shape: Veneers can enhance the shape of misshapen teeth, making them look more natural and aesthetically pleasing.
The procedure for getting dental veneers begins with a consultation to discuss your goals and determine if veneers are the right choice for you. If suitable, we create a personalised treatment plan and prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel for a proper fit. Impressions are then taken to craft custom veneers that match your natural teeth. Temporary veneers may be placed while your custom ones are being made. Once ready, we bond the veneers to your teeth, making any necessary adjustments for a perfect fit. Finally, we check your bite and provide care instructions to help you maintain your beautiful new smile. Overall, the process typically takes a few weeks and can significantly enhance your smile’s appearance.
Composite veneers typically last around 7 years, while porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years. To maximise their lifespan, it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene, avoid biting hard objects, and regularly visit your dentist for check-ups. With proper care, many patients enjoy the benefits of their veneers for a decade or more, making them a worthwhile investment in your smile.
Veneers are generally considered an irreversible procedure. This is because a small amount of enamel is removed from the teeth to ensure a proper fit for the veneers. Once this enamel is removed, it cannot be restored, meaning that if you decide to remove the veneers in the future, your teeth may require additional restoration, such as crowns or new veneers. Composite veneers, however, are generally considered more reversible than porcelain veneers. While some enamel may still be removed during the application process, it is typically less than what is required for porcelain veneers. This means that, in many cases, composite veneers can be removed without significant alteration to the underlying tooth structure. It’s important to carefully consider your decision and discuss your options with our team during the consultation to ensure that veneers align with your long-term dental goals.
Veneers offer several benefits compared to other cosmetic dental procedures, making them a popular choice for enhancing smiles:
  • Natural Appearance: Veneers are designed to closely match the colour and translucency of natural teeth, providing a very natural-looking result.
  • Minimally Invasive: The application of veneers typically requires less enamel removal than crowns or other restorative options, preserving more of your natural tooth structure.
  • Versatility: Veneers can address a variety of cosmetic concerns, including discoloration, chips, gaps, and minor misalignment, making them a versatile solution.
  • Durability: Porcelain veneers are highly durable and resistant to staining, allowing them to maintain their appearance over time with proper care.
  • Quick Results: The process for getting veneers can often be completed in just a few visits, providing quick and effective results compared to orthodontic treatments or other cosmetic procedures that may take longer.
  • Boost in Confidence: By enhancing the appearance of your smile, veneers can significantly improve self-esteem and confidence.
The cost of dental veneers can vary based on the type of material used and the complexity of your case. At My Implant Dentist, composite veneers typically start at around $500 per tooth, making them a more affordable option. Porcelain veneers, known for their durability and natural appearance, generally start at approximately $1,600 per tooth. During your free veneer consultation, we will provide a detailed treatment plan that outlines the total costs involved and discuss financing options to help make the procedure more accessible. Investing in veneers can lead to significant improvements in your smile, making them a worthwhile consideration.
Insurance coverage for veneer procedures can vary widely depending on your specific dental plan and provider. Many insurance plans consider veneers a cosmetic treatment, which means they may not cover the full cost. However, if veneers are deemed medically necessary—for instance, if they are used to restore a tooth that is damaged or decayed—some coverage may apply. It’s essential to check with your insurance provider to understand your benefits and any potential out-of-pocket costs. Our team at My Implant Dentist can also provide you a personalised treatment plan which can be used to quote to your provider. We can also help you explore financing plans to make your veneer treatment more manageable.
Caring for your veneers is essential to ensure their longevity and maintain their appearance. To start, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush and non-abrasive toothpaste, and floss daily to keep the areas between your teeth clean. Be cautious when eating hard or sticky foods, as they can damage your veneers, and try to break any habits like biting your nails or using your teeth to open packages. Regular dental check-ups are important for monitoring your veneers and overall oral health. If you grind your teeth at night or participate in contact sports, consider wearing a mouthguard to protect your veneers from damage. While porcelain veneers are resistant to staining, it’s wise to limit your intake of highly pigmented foods and beverages, like coffee and red wine, to keep your smile looking bright. By following these care tips, you can help ensure your veneers remain in excellent condition and continue to enhance your smile for many years.
At My Implant Dentist, we offer two main types of materials for dental veneers: porcelain and composite. Porcelain veneers are known for their strength, durability, and natural appearance, making them a popular choice for achieving a radiant smile. They are highly resistant to staining and can mimic the translucency of natural teeth, providing a beautiful and long-lasting result. Composite veneers, on the other hand, are made from a tooth-coloured resin material and are typically more affordable. They can be applied in a single visit, allowing for quick results. While composite veneers may not last as long as porcelain ones, they can still effectively improve the appearance of your smile. During your consultation, we will discuss the benefits of each material and help you choose the best option for your needs and preferences.
The process of getting dental veneers typically takes a few weeks from start to finish. It begins with an initial consultation where we discuss your goals and evaluate your teeth to determine if veneers are the right choice for you. If you decide to proceed, the next appointment involves preparing your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel for a proper fit. We then take impressions of your teeth to create custom veneers, which usually takes about one to two weeks to be fabricated. Once your veneers are ready, you’ll return for a final appointment where we will bond them to your teeth and make any necessary adjustments for a perfect fit. Overall, the entire process can range from two to four weeks, allowing you to enjoy your new smile in a relatively short timeframe.
