While several patients have little difficulty wearing an upper denture, some patients find lower dentures uncomfortable to wear and eat with. If you are missing one of your lower teeth, you have some implant-supported replacement options.
Dental implants provide numerous benefits to patients who miss one or more teeth. They are the only tooth replacement option that restore a natural tooth’s look, feel, and function. Dental implants benefits include improved chewing and speaking, better oral health, and improved facial aesthetics. Implants also help to preserve the jawbone and prevent bone loss, and they are a long-term solution for tooth replacement. Dental implants are a more economical than other forms of tooth replacement, as they do not require costly replacement or repair over time. For these reasons and more, dental implants are an excellent solution for those looking to replace missing teeth.
Many patients are opting for dental implants to replace their conventional dentures and partials due to the numerous advantages of the All-on-4 type of tooth replacement. Furthermore, some patients are replacing their missing teeth with implants first, rather than conventional acrylic dental prostheses.
We will examine your medical history, undertake a physical examination and take X-rays. Once you have decided that this is the best option, preliminary impressions are recorded and a surgical guide is fabricated.
If needed, your dentist will remove any remaining teeth and place the dental implants. You can choose to remain awake or be asleep (sleep dentistry). During the same appointment, impressions and a bite record are taken to create temporary acrylic implant bridges. These can usually be fitted on the same day of your surgery.
The fixed temporary acrylic implant bridges will be fitted to your dental implants within 24 hours of your surgery. Usually, no local anesthetic is required for this visit. You will then need to wait 2-6 months for osseointegration to take place (the implants will ‘fuse’ with your bone), and then only the dental implants will be ready for the permanent implant bridge.
Your dentist will check the osseointegration of your dental implants, the gums underneath your teeth and ensure that all the implants are successful. At this stage, you will be given the option to upgrade from the temporary acrylic bridge to a Zirconia – Porcelain bridge. This upgrade will provide you with more strength, greater aesthetics, improved comfort, and longevity. It also has a smoother and more natural feel and easier hygiene.
All-on-4 dental implants are designed to be comfortable as they do not press down on your gums as traditional dentures would. You will soon be able to bite with increased force and experience the normal sensation of enjoying hot or cold foods and all their flavours again.
All-On-4 Perth dental implants are built to be more secure than conventional dentures, so they do not rub against the gums. You’ll soon be able to bite with more intensity and taste hot or cold foods and all of their flavours once more.
